What’s the best way to get from point A to point B?
Nov 16, 2023
I’m at the airport, waiting for my flight to San Luis Obispo. Anticipating large crowds and long TSA security lines, I got here several hours (like 4 hours) before my flight. In the hour and a half I’ve been here I’ve already been aggravated but have also had a good time.
The aggravation: I tried to drop off my bag, but the United representative told me I needed to log into the United app. I had a bag tag on my luggage and my boarding pass out to show her. What the app was going to do for me is beyond my comprehension. I was able to drop my bag off once I stood and waited in a different line.
The fun: getting coffee and a donut from Voodoo Donuts. If you’ve been to Denver and had their donuts I don’t need to say more. If you haven’t, on your next trip here (or layover at DIA) go to terminal B to the upstairs food court and get a donut. There is also a shop somewhere in town, but I have yet to look for it for fear of the weight I would gain once I know it’s location.
The aggravation AND the fun: I paid $79 for TSA pre-check eligibility for the next five years. Fabulous, right? Well here at DIA everyone else must have done the same because the pre-check line was longer than the regular security line. Yes, I had to almost disrobe in the regular security line, but I got through it much faster.
Ok, so the topic of this post is about modes of transportation. I recently wrote about my road trip, which was great fun. All modalities of travel to get you to your final destination have their pros and cons. When you drive you have the freedom to explore places along the way, but driving time consuming and tiring. Taking a train is more relaxing and may be a little faster than driving, but you can’t stop and explore along the way. Planes get you to your destination fast but they are often overcrowded and every once in a while you’re unlucky enough to be on a flight with a complete lunatic or seated next to someone very smelly. And airports are their own special treat! Cruises include everything you can think of to do while on you trip (at least that’s what they advertise) but they seem confining and not something I would ever choose. Biking and walking are both great exercise and cheap (basically free once you get a bike and/or good walking shoes) but only if you’re only going a few miles (unless you’re one of those people who bike/walk in marathons).
So here’s my attempt at a readers poll … what do you think is the best mode of transportation to get from Point A to Point B? Submit your thoughts on this topic by clicking on the “Leave a Comment” button. Let me know what you think is best and why. I’ll report back in my next post on your comments. And if you’re going somewhere soon, happy travels!

Traveling by vehicle since this allow you to explore at will.
I don't enjoy it - but would prefer to drive, ALONE.
Listen to my choice of music or talk radio, snack and stop wherever and whenever I want.
Am I cranky? no just too damn old ; ).
